The Yahoo! Current Network has launched.

The first destination video network on the web developed exclusively for and with an online audience. Built entirely by the user, Yahoo! Current works like this:

Anyone who wants to contribute can upload a video. Then, everyone in the Current online community votes for what should be on TV. You can join in at either stage — watch & vote or make video. (You can also get online training to help you get the skills you need to make TV!)

Visit current.tv to find what Cable or Satellite channel the Current Network is on.

Here is a video introductory to the Yahoo! Current Network.

The beta of Yahoo! Photos is due to launch on Today, around Noon EST/9AM PST. According to TechCrunch if you login to photos.yahoo.com and see “try the new beta” on the top right, just click it to request an invitation. About 10,000 spots will be available in the next week, so make sure you grab yours early. More spots will be made available over the next few weeks, so if you don’t get one tomorrow don’t worry.

Yahoo Photos is the largest online photo site with 30 million unique monthly visitors (compare to Flickr’s 8 million). Flickr is for the early adopters. Yahoo photos used to be for the masses, but a few early adopters may be giving it a try, too.

How-To: Getting Google maps and Yahoo maps to work behind squid

May 3, 2006 on 8:18 pm | In google, howto, tips, yahoo | No Comments

If you are using Squid within your company and you need to allow access to certain sites, you can simply add them to your “goodsites” list.(If you are new to squid and need help setting it up, here is a quick start guide) However, some sites require just a little more work than that.

Here are a few quick tips for getting Google Maps and Yahoo! Maps to work with a Squid configuration which white-lists sites.

In your “goodsites” file add the following domains for Google Maps:

local.google.com
maps.google.com
mt0.google.com
mt1.google.com
mt2.google.com
mt3.google.com
mt4.google.com
mt5.google.com
kh0.google.com
kh1.google.com
kh2.google.com
kh3.google.com
kh4.google.com
kh5.google.com

and the following domains for Yahoo! Maps

.maps.yahoo.com
.rd.yahoo.com
.ard.yahoo.com
.srd.yahoo.com
.yimg.com

To figure out which domains you need to add to the list to allow access to a website that uses multiple servers(such as Google Maps), load up the page with a Firefox browser that has unrestricted internet access, and go to “Tools” -> “Page Info” -> “Media”. You probably need to add most of the domains that you see in that list to your “goodsites” file, to allow full access to that site.
