Digg 3.0 launches with a redesign and extended topics

As expected, Digg 3.0 has launched this morning. The Digg 3.0 site sports a redisign, with a new layout, and also expands Digg’s categories past Technology related topics.

The new categories and sub-categories are:

Technology

Science > (Space, Environment, Health ,General Sciences)

World & Business > (Business & Finance, Politics, World News, Offbeat News)

Videos > (Animation, Comedy, Educational, Music, People, Gaming)

Entertainment > (Celebrity, Movies, Music, Television)

Gaming > (Gaming News, Playable Web Games)

Digg 3.0 coming Monday with major improvements and changes

As usual, TechCrunch got the scoop on the upcoming Digg 3.0 update, which is launching this Monday. The update will feature an expansion of categories, as Digg venturers into the unknown, as well as a site redesign with major improvements.

In addition to a redesign (that retains the essential Digg â€œexperienceâ€?), Digg is adding a number of news categories beyond technology. Topics are grouped into six â€œcontainersâ€?, including technology, entertainment, gaming, science, world & business, and online video. The default view on Digg is still the technology container, although users can change that view and can also deselect individual topics within containers to further refine what they see on the home page.

With the site traffic doubling about every two months, Digg currently generates 800,000 unique visitors, and over 9 million pageviews on a daily basis.

Craigslist.org expands all over US and overseas

Craigslist.org, a free community classifieds and forums website, for posting and searching for jobs, goods, services, housing, or even dating, has expanded throughout the United States and overseas.

Craigslist was founded in early 1995 by Craig Newman, in San Francisco, Ca. Currently, Craigslist is rated in one of the top 100 Alexa sites.

SingleStat.Us Shutdown by MySpace

SingleStat.us, a website which tracked people ther you were interested in on MySpace, and then notified you when they became single, has been shutdown. MySpace sent a cease and desist letter to SingleStat.us just 10 days after the site had launched.

David Weekly, the owner of the site writes:

I’ve closed this site, but it was a lot of fun to make (in a few hours) and run! It lived a short but fun life, with nearly a hundred thousand hits in its ten days here on Earth.

But I come not to praise SingleStat.us, but to bury it. But if you want to find out about other services I launch, gimme your email address. I won’t spam you.

This is the second site shutdown which we have reported on today.

Microsoft Windows Vista Beta 2 – Available Via BitTorrent, for now

Anyone who has tried to download Windows Vista Beta 2 in the last few days knows that Microsoft is experiencing extremely high download demand. Microsoft is currently recommending that people order the Windows Vista Beta 2 DVD, instead of downloading it from their site.

VistaTorrent, created by two “Windows enthusiasts”, Chris and Jake, is the unofficial BitTorrent download site for Microsoft Windows Vista Beta 2. The guys at VistaTorrent were able to download the full ISO from Microsoft, and set up a BitTorrent tracker to let others download it, instead of having to order it. They are also providing an MD5 hash to verify the file after downloading it.

Since Microsoft hasn’t been known to exactly embrace distributing their software via BitTorrent, grab it while you can.

Introducing 30 Boxes Webtop

TechCrunch writes about a new service that was just launched from 30 Boxes, called Webtop. 30 Boxes is a simple to use, yet powerful, online calendar application, that adds community based interaction, and integration to other online services such as Flickr.

Webtop, is a web browser desktop-like application, which is a front end to 30 Boxes, with an OS X look and feel to it. With Webtop, you have full control of your Todo list and calendar, the ability to set and customize your own background images, and you can also launch other web applications straight from the dock(such as Gmail, Flickr, Facebook, Webshots, etc), which is fully customizable to your linking.

Grocerylists.org – A collection of found grocery lists

Bill Keaggy found an abandoned grocery list in a parking lot, sometime around 1996-1997. Ever since then, he has picked up and collected every grocery list, and any other list he has ever found. To be exact, to date, he has collected more than 1100 lists.

Naturally, he started a website and called it Grocerylists.com. He has scans of all the lists ever found, and has also compiled Top-10 lists for the best of the best.

Bill is currently working on turning the Grocery List Collection into a book, with the working title of “Milk, Eggs, Vodka: The Lost Grocery Lists of America.“.
