Nintendo Wii release date is October 2nd, according to cryptologist

August 11, 2006 on 4:15 pm | In nintendo, release date, rumors, speculation, video games, wii | 10 Comments

Nintendo WiiA few weeks ago we wrote about people speculating the Nintendo Wii release date to be October 2nd, by way of analyzing one of Nintendo’s press releases, filling in the missing information and reading between the lines.

Now, we seem to have more “proof” that the Nintendo Wii release date will be indeed October 2nd. Cryptologists have cracked the “Wii” code and give us the following information:

In the word “Wii” the letter W is actually made up of two V letters. As we all know, the V is the number 5 in Roman Numerals. There are two V letters, so naturally we add 5 + 5 and we have the first part of our answer, “10″, which is the month of the release.

Next, following the same logic we take the two remaining letters of the word “Wii” the “ii”. The letter “i” can also be represented as the number 1 in Roman Numerals. We have two “i” letters, so we add 1 + 1 together to get the last part of the answer which is “2″.

Now, we know that the “10″ is the first part which is the month, and we also know that the “2″ is the last part which is the day. Our answer? 10-2, or October 2nd.

Bam! There you have it. The problem has been solved, the code has been cracked, and now we have the real release date of the Nintendo Wii.

(Thanks Mike)

It is really amazing how far people will go to find the answer they want, or believe is really true.

Playing and beating 2 SNES games at the same time

August 11, 2006 on 1:59 pm | In mega man, nintendo, snes, super nintendo, video, video games | No Comments

Mega ManWhy? Probably just because they could. By wiring a single controller into two different Super Nintendo(SNES) emulators for use at the exact same time, this person was able to play, and beat two SNES games simultaniously.

The two games played are SNES Mega Man X and Mega Man X2. The results were recorded and are now available for your viewing pleasure.

This movie is essentially constructed by taking one controller and wiring it into two SNES emulators at once. The same input is used to play both games to completion.

Your best bet is to download the video via BitTorrent, as the mirror to the direct download is completely hit.

Video: Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan in action on the Nintendo DS

August 5, 2006 on 1:21 am | In nintendo, video, video games | No Comments

Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan is a Japanese imported game which is best described as a DDR style game on the Nintendo DS. You play to the beat of the music, tapping the numbers in sequence at the correct time.

The story line follows your character which is part of a team that fights to bring peace to the world by helping people.

This video is of one of the harder levels in the game, which this guy makes look pretty easy. It starts out a little slow but gets difficult towards the end. This is harder than it looks.

It looks like Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan is going to be released in the USA under the title of “Elite Beat Agents” with different music and a different storyline in early November of this year.

Gamecube Dragged By A Car, Beat Up, Dented and Cracked, Works Afterwards!

August 4, 2006 on 4:14 pm | In nintendo, video games | No Comments

These guys took a gamecube and tied a rope to the little handle at the top of the Gamecube. Then they had the smart idea to throw the gamecube off the back of a car and watch it eat pavement for a good minute. The car had to be going at least 40-50 MPH. The gamecube received the expected bumps and bruises, but amazingly worked after the terrifying experience. I could never see a XBOX or a PS2 surviving that kind of damage! One up for Nintendo and that purple little box.

Nintendo 64 Kid is a Thousandaire

August 4, 2006 on 2:56 pm | In video games | No Comments

Everyone knows who Nintendo 64 kid is (at least I think everyone knows!), and I am sure many people wonder what ever happened to that kid. Well Nintendo 64 kid is now a teenager and he is a soon to be “thousandaire.” The little boy who was full of joy is now selling the very possession that made his famous. The Nintendo 64 is currently on sale on Ebay, and is over the $1000 mark. ($1001.00 as of right now). It is pretty amazing to see how much people on the Internet are willing to pay for a piece of “internet fame.” The only thing that provides some concern is the fact that most of the bidders have very low feedback. Either people are bidding as a joke to screw N64 kid over, or N64 kid is boosting the bidding. Hopefully neither of those scenerios are true!

Dead Rising Demo Available For Xbox 360

August 4, 2006 on 1:38 pm | In Dead Rising, Demo, XBox 360, video games, xbox | No Comments

The much anticipate game “Dead Rising” demo is now available for download for the Xbox 360. The demo download is 1014 MB in size and has received some nice reviews already. Right now the game is purely single player and does not have any multi-player functions. The game is only playable for 15 minutes, which kind of stinks, but gives players a nice taste of what is to come. The game’s hero, Frank, starts equipped with a sledgehammer and a shotgun, and as gamers progress through the zombie-infested mall, they can pick up other items to use against the undead meatbags. The Demo is not available in Mexico, Germany, Australia, New Zealand or Asia. The game will be available for purchase on August 8th for those in the USA, and on September 8th for those in Europe.

Rumor: E3 Dead?

July 30, 2006 on 7:18 pm | In E3, video games | No Comments

UPDATE:
Sources close to the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) tell Ars Technica that the show can and will go on, but that big changes are planned. The “Electronic Entertainment Expo” (hence E3) started in 1995 as a small but interesting annual convention for gaming, following roughly six months after the once-popular annual COMDEX computer trade-show in Las Vegas. The show has grown immensely in popularity, and that appears to be the problem.

The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) shindig has been a staple of game industry life since the mid-1990s. However, we understand the larger exhibitors have jointly decided that the costs of the event do not justify the returns, generally measured in media exposure.

Even if the costs are not coorelating to the media exposure, E3 still needs to go on. The event is the epitome of video games and truly provides the real fans some entertainment. All of the rumors and speculation will be sorely missed, and it is a shame that no company will step up and make sure that E3 can live. This is not a done deal, but sadly it looks like E3 will be cancelled forever.

Sony PS3 controller spelling error

June 13, 2006 on 1:43 pm | In funny, sony, video games | 3 Comments

Sony PlayStation 3 Controller Kotaku wrote about a spelling error found on the new Sony PS3 controller, while it was being showcased at Sony’s Ginza showroom.

It appears that instead of “SELECT”, the button is actually labeled “SERECT”.

Oops! You probably want to double check little things like that before showcasing your upcoming gaming console. There are more pics over at Kotaku. – Photoshop or not, you be the judge.

Nintendo Wii Release Date: November 6th

May 31, 2006 on 6:54 pm | In nintendo, nintendo wii, video games, wii | No Comments

We ran into a gaming website claiming that they were able to get some inside information from Nintendo in regards to the Wii release date. According to their sources, as of right now, the Nintendo Wii release date is scheduled for November 6th.

… we pushed our source a bit further to see if they had an idea of a more exact date. Today, we were provided with the following information…

“So, at the moment Nintendo are aiming to launch the Wii on November 6th”

Our source emphasised that this date is correct at present, but pointed out: “Nintendo aren’t going to have an exact date in mind until they are sure they can meet the deadlines”.

Since Sony has already announced the PlayStation 3 release date, and Nintendo did announce a Q4 launch date at this years E3, it makes sense that Nintendo would do everything possible within their power, to get their new console out into the market before Sony launches the PS3.

Please take the November 6th launch information with a grain of salt, as nothing has been confirmed by Nintendo yet.
