Infinium Labs changes name to Phantom Entertainment
May 30, 2006 on 8:52 pm | In funny, technology, video games | No Comments
Remember Infinium Labs?
Infinium Labs™, Inc. was founded by a management team with extensive experience in interactive media, entertainment and technology. The company is set to launch a cutting edge online gaming service. The Phantom® Game Service will be delivered online over any broadband network and will offer a broad library of games designed to appeal to both the avid gamer as well as the casual player.
If not, Infinum Labs is the company that promised to deliver The Phantom, an on-demand video game service, delivering games via an online subscription. After blowing through an estimated $62.7 million over 3 years from investors without ever launching a single functional product, and with their former CEO under investigation for stock fraud, Infinium Labs, is now changing their name to Phantom Entertainment(ok - that’s just funny!).
Infinium Labs, won 3rd place at the 2004 Wired Vaporware awards, and 1st place at the 2005 Wired Vaporware awards.
Apparently, they have now scrapped all plans for The Phantom as they have decided to double the amount of outstanding shares issued in an effort to raise additional cash, to focus on getting their gaming “lapboard” peripheral to market.

May 30, 2006 on 7:36 pm | In health, technology | No Comments
Tanita, a Japanese company specializing in health equipment is introducing a brand new scale.
The Tanita BC-502(only available in Japan as of right now) is the perfect scale for the lazy athlete in all of us.
This scale, just like most of Tanita’s other semi-professional and professional weighing scales can measure your weight, as well as your muscle mass and fat ratio. However, unlike the other models which connect to your PC via USB so you can keep track of your progress, this little devil can transmit the measurements via Bluetooth to your computer, or even directly to your cell phone.
Apple MacBook “Moooing” sound identified and explained.
May 26, 2006 on 2:15 am | In MacBook, apple, technology, videos | 8 CommentsA brave Apple MacBook owner took it upon himself to find out exactly where the “Moooing” sound heard in a lot of the new MacBooks is coming from. By taking apart his brand new Apple MacBook computer and removing some of the casing, he was able to confirm everyones suspicions that the sound is indeed coming from the system’s fans.
It seems that the fans turn on at a specific temperature, like they are suppose to, but only stay on for a few seconds, as the temperature very quickly drop by a few degrees. The “Moooing” sound that is heard is produced by the fans turning on and airflow starting to move through the MacBook enclosure.
It’s entirely possible that Apple had intended to make the fans hyper-sensitive, to avoid draining extra battery power, and to keep the MacBook as quiet as possible. However, if this is something that really is a problem, Apple should be able to fix it by changing the temperature at which the fans go on or off, with a firmware update.
Update: Here is the discussion of this issue over at Apple.com
Concept: Foldable Screen DVD player.
May 9, 2006 on 5:37 pm | In DVD, concept, technology | 2 CommentsThis is perfect for those long flights in coach, when you are cramped up, and can hardly maneuver as the person next to your drools all over your arm. When not in use, the Origami DVD Player folds down to about the size of a portable CD player.

The Origami DVD Player is a portable DVD player concept that could be manufactured with a new e-paper (a full-color flexible display technology) being developed by Mag-Ink in Israel. As a product, it would target the business traveler who wants a convenient way to watch DVD movies.
Convert your music collection and images into ringtones and graphics for your mobile phone
May 5, 2006 on 8:25 pm | In cell phones, ringtones, service, technology | 2 CommentsMobile17 offers a free service that turns your music and images into custom ringtones and graphics that work with your mobile phone. For example, after you create your free account, you upload your favorite mp3/m4a file to mobile17, and you choose whether to have your new ringtone sent to your phone, or download it from a URL which they will also send to you.
The only catch with their free service is that you might have to wait upwards to an hour or more, depending on how busy the site is. However, they do accept site donations which will get your ringtone to you immediately, at the cost of $1 per ringtone, which is still cheaper than purchasing ringtones from your mobile service provider.
