Windows Games Coming To Mac (intel)

TransGaming today released the “Cider” portability engine for Intel-based Macs, offering game developers and publishers the ability to deploy Windows-based games on new Macs quickly and easily, without the need for traditional arduous porting. “TransGaming’s Cider product will change the landscape of the Mac gaming market. Mac gamers have always patiently waited many months for access to only a handful of titles. With Cider, game developers and publishers can easily extend their triple A portfolio to Intel Mac without any effort or delay, which means that avid Mac gamers will have access to triple A video games coincidental with the Windows release,” said Vikas Gupta, president and CEO of TransGaming. The company already has agreements in place with a number of the top tier video game publishers to bring their titles to Intel-based Macs, saying that Mac gamers can expect the release of these titles in the next few months.

Well that is it, the last knock that the mainstrem has against Mac’s is out the window. Typically when someone who isn’t “in the know” bashes a Mac computer the main complaint is gaming (at least for the younger generation). Now that the “Cider” eliminates this argument, Mac computers could see a huge increase in sales. As long as this transition goes smoothly, and all the companies involved do the right thing, this is a HUGE breakthrough in the world of gaming and apple computers.

Core Applications – Do You Use Them?

Recently the creators of I Use This asked their users if the website should continue to list the core applications of the OSX operating system. So far there has been a mixed response from the community, and the decision could go either way. In reality what harm is done by keeping the core applications in the service? Damage can only be done by removing the core applications away from users who may want to list them within their profile. As long as I Use This continues to develop their “recommendations” feature, it would be best to keep things the way they are.
