The phone call, which was released to the public, received a lot of attention in the blogosphere community, and even made front page at the newly launched Netscape Beta site.

AOL spokesperson Nicholas Graham issued the following statement:

“At AOL, we have zero-tolerance for customer care incidents like this – which is deeply regrettable and also absolutely inexcusable. The employee in question violated our customer service guidelines and practices, and everything that AOL believes to be important in customer care – chief among them being respect for the member, and swiftly honoring their requests. This matter was dealt with immediately and appropriately, and the employee cited here is no longer with the Company.”

AOL just launched a huge “Digg Killer” website. With about 30 topics to choose from, the site works almost like Digg. The users submit and vote on articles, however, unlike Digg, an editor, or “anchor” as they are called on the site, decides which stories make it onto the front page, and which don’t.

The current home of this site is beta.netscape.com and it will eventually become the new Netscape.com, when they beta is over.

The launch of this AOL site comes just days after the news of an upcoming digg expansion, which will expand digg into categories other than technology.

Sometimes we pay for a service which we no longer use simply because we haven’t had the time, or energy to cancel it. Here is a recording of a phone call made by an AOL user trying to cancel his AOL account, which he was no longer using.

Listening to this recording will actually make you angry. It’s so ridiculous that I am doubting the authenticity of this call.
