Hi Davis,

I will have to disagree on a few points.

First, for people who got 9.1 and their CableCARDs no longer work - their S3 IS a paperweight as it cannot be used for the single purpose which it was intended for. A DVR which doesn't record TV is what use?

Second, if you read over the tivocommunity forums you'll see that there's plenty of people who got the update without signing the priority list. Maybe they're not all being truthful, I don't know but that's what they claim.

To characterize it as a paperweight really isn't fair, when all it takes is an update to fix the problem. I'm not surprised that customer service reps don't know about this. I follow the TiVo blogs and fan forums pretty closely and this is the first I've heard about it.

It's unfortunate that the update caused problems and I agree that TiVo should be more aggressive about communicating the issues behind the glitch, but also think that this may be a little bit of an overreaction. I'd be upset if I had to reenter all of my passes, but in order to get the update, you had to be on an early adopter list to begin with and these sorts of problems is part of the price, for being granted early access.
