Ruining “The Thundercats”
August 23, 2006 on 2:05 pm | In 80s, cartoon, thundercats, tv | 8 CommentsSome things are much better left alone.
WB animation is remaking the Thundercats as an animated TV series. The animation style is whimsical, Americanized-anime, along the lines of Teen Titans. The setting is modern-day Earth, in a major city (possibly LA) The Thundercats are all teenagers. Their leader is Snarf (!) who is now a mystic with a “third” eye. Each of the Thundercats has a weapon with an “Eye of Thunderra” and transformative powers (not just Lion-O) When they aren’t fighting evil, the Thundercats play together as a rock band. That’s not a typo, or a joke. They are rockin’ cats in their present form. Mum-Ra now has wings.
When I first found out about “The Thundercats” coming back I was excited, not knowing that they are going to “reinvent” the series. Is this really necessary? Are we completely out of new ideas? And since almost everything has changed about the show, can they even call the show “The Thundercats”?

This is a travesty beyond all acceptable boundaries. Is nothing sacred? Why is the original idea not good enough? Why does everything have to be ‘relevant’ to teenagers these days?
Christ, I’m glad I’m not a kid these days, I’d be bored off my ass with TV. Probably a good thing, maybe thats their strategy… get more kids outside and away from the ‘boringbox’

If this is true, I’ll refuse to watch it. I’ve seen what they’ve done to Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, etc., by turning them into teenaged superheroes. The late Ted Wolf must be spinning in his grave!

well theres an old fashioned statement somethings
better with age if they want to revive thundercats cartoon i say totaly excellent i hope they dont do the famous star wars trick of by doing an prequel of thundercats like they did with the original masters of the universe 80’s show the turkeys of the past including the follow on from the real ghostbusters called the extreme ghostbusters like star trek enterprise that bombed after season 2 the extreme ghostbusters did not lived upto the same expectations as the 80’s counterpart and it will be great to see thundercats being introduced to the children of the next generation of cartoon fans and it will be totaly refreshing to see the old classic again

That idea totally SUCKS out loud! Who comes up with this crap? Don’t fix it if it’s not broke! To revamp the cartoon, but don’t change the story line would be great. The story line was what was so special to some people. BOO! HISS! What happened to JUSTICE, TRUTH, HONOR, and LOYALTY!?!?

If it were up to me and I had the financial wherewithal to do it, I’d revive the Thundercats by continuing their adventures on New Thundera. The animation would be of the quality of “Howl’s Moving Castle”; the appearance of Lord Lion-O and company would change very little; the actors who originally voiced the characters would voice them again (another actor would have to replace the late Robert McFadden, who did Snarf); and this time there’d be a backstory that would explore the Thundercats’ past, present, and future. Hey, don’t laugh. I’m serious; this is how I’d do it!
