Selling Your Soul: Digg Style
July 31, 2006 on 10:47 am | In digg, ebay | 2 CommentsLate last night Techcrunch wrote about one Digg.com user who was selling his profile on ebay.
Here is a look at the auction as of late last night:

This situation has caused a lot of debate among the internet community. Most people feel that the idea of selling your account for money is selling out, while some feel it is a smart business decision. What most people agree on is the fact that this is most likely against the Digg TOS, and that the account will be deleted shortly.
What really made this interesting was the fact that the digg profile for sale was hacked by another digg member:

The member who originally owned the digg profile had a password of “digg” set for the account. Genius.

The “hacker” returned the profile, nice of him.
The auction is currently at $325.00, you can track the progress of the auction Here
Rumor: E3 Dead?
July 30, 2006 on 7:18 pm | In E3, video games | No CommentsUPDATE:
Sources close to the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) tell Ars Technica that the show can and will go on, but that big changes are planned. The “Electronic Entertainment Expo” (hence E3) started in 1995 as a small but interesting annual convention for gaming, following roughly six months after the once-popular annual COMDEX computer trade-show in Las Vegas. The show has grown immensely in popularity, and that appears to be the problem. Source
The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) shindig has been a staple of game industry life since the mid-1990s. However, we understand the larger exhibitors have jointly decided that the costs of the event do not justify the returns, generally measured in media exposure.
Even if the costs are not coorelating to the media exposure, E3 still needs to go on. The event is the epitome of video games and truly provides the real fans some entertainment. All of the rumors and speculation will be sorely missed, and it is a shame that no company will step up and make sure that E3 can live. This is not a done deal, but sadly it looks like E3 will be cancelled forever.

Myspace Deleting Profiles: (FIXED)
July 28, 2006 on 1:11 pm | In myspace | 2 CommentsIf you were brave enough to browse around Myspace, you would have seen a ton of Myspace accounts that have been “deleted.” It must have been an error, since one of our Myspace’s was “Deleted.” Thankfully it seems like our account is back and fully functional. Those of you who were panicking, don’t worry; your friends and your account are still there! (at least we hope so!) This is just another hiccup Myspace has endured over the past week or so. Tom and his friends need to get a little more stable if they want to be the biggest website out there.
This is what millions of people saw:
Facebook “Flyers” A Complete Waste
July 28, 2006 on 11:05 am | In Facebook, advertising | 2 Comments
In early May of 2006 Facebook launched a new feature, “Facebook Flyers.” The idea behind this was that any Facebook user could buy a small block of text on the left sidebar of Facebook. This block would appear on every student’s page who belonged to the chosen college/university. The cost of this service is a mere $5.
Looking at Boston Universities “Current Flyer Board” there are only 7 advertisers who spent the $5. In reality, when using Facebook, the average user sees more “sample flyers” made by Facebook than real flyers made by the students. As of right now, this marketing tool is completely useless to students since anyone can simply make a group or an event to advertise what they want… for FREE. Not only would this service be free, but effective.
Just to make sure this notion was true, I tested the “Facebook Flyer.” I bought a spot to see how many visitors I could send to a popular Hip-Hop site my friend owns. I put up the $5 flyer, and posted it at the University of Houston. The results? 2 unique visitors in a 24 hour span. Facebook rules!
Meebo and Netvibes Are Closing In On Greatness
July 27, 2006 on 1:34 pm | In Meebo, Netvibes | 3 CommentsRecently Meebo and Netvibes teamed up and there is a good chance that this can be a huge hit. The Meebo implementation opens in a separate tab in NetVibes but makes a sound to notify you of new IM messages if you’re on the main NetVibes tab. (Techcrunch)
I love the concept of Meebo becoming an option at Netvibes, but it is just falling short of brilliance. Honestly the great thing about Netvibes is that all that everything you need is on a single page. Yes some people have so much, that they need the tabs; but the option to put Meebo on the same page as most of your feeds would be monumental. The best way to go about this is to possibly minimize everythign, and have the buddy lists and chat windows come to the forefront. If Meebo and Netvibes could work that out, Netvibes could EXPLODE!
Sneak Peak of The Simpsons Movie
July 27, 2006 on 12:59 pm | In Movie, Simpsons | No CommentsHere is a sneak preview of “The Simpsons” movie coming out in July of 2007. The clip has no color, and the animation is still choppy, but you can get the picture. Enjoy Homer, and only Homer!

For those of you who don’t know, there was an interesting “Reddit vs Digg” conflict yesterday. Essentially at the end of it all, Digg would bury any story that had Reddit in the title, and Reddit had 4 of their top 10 stories pertaining to Digg. Score one for Reddit!
Google Blog Search Dying A Slow Death?
July 26, 2006 on 4:38 pm | In Blog Search, google | No Comments
Recently a user on a prominent webmaster’s forum asked the community if anyone still used Google Blog Search. The results came out to be rather suprising:
i didnt even know there WAS a blog search :P
Nope, i hardly ever use it….
haha.. me too… I think people are too lazy to do that… they would just rather search on google itself. Just my 2cents though..
To answer your question, I never use it, and I don’t think any of my users do either.
Probably just another Beta Program that they lost interest in and will let die on the vine.
In the entire history of my site, I haven’t gotten any referrers from Google Blog Search
While this is quite depressing, does anyone actually have any figures? The best I can do is this - I ran a keyword analysis on ‘google blog’ and the top searched term - google blog (obviously ) - was searched only 1812 times last month on Overture US…
Yeah, Google and Blogging in general don’t get along too well it seems.
Well, that didn’t go well. So Google’s blog search didn’t explode to greatness, not a big deal. There are plenty of other blog searchers, and it seems that Google is content with letting “Google Blog Search” die off.
Monopoly 2.0 In Retrospect
July 26, 2006 on 1:26 pm | In Board Game, Monopoly, Parker Brothers | No Comments
Yesterday Parker Brothers announced the new Monopoly featuring plastic cards instead of paper money.
“Monopoly board game players can now pay for properties with debit cards.” Parker said replacing of cash with plastic showed the game was moving with the times.
This new found way of transactions can be looked at in many different ways. For one, it should speed up an already long game. Players will no longer have to do slow mental math in order to make a purchase. Cheating will also be affected by the introduction of plastic since players can no longer hide or steal the paper money. In reality, the only thing that sucks is the fact that you can no longer have the satisfaction of having the biggest pile of cash. We don’t know about you, but we love to flaunt our dollar bills in our competition’s face.
