Its from the outer ground wire coating touching the inner power cable. Happens due to strain in that area. The inner rubber coating the power gets worn by the ground wire that surrounds it. Apple needs to take care of this. Im getting tired of spending a couple hours every year on the phone with them trying to get it replaced! Happened to me twice now. Great workmanship, really great.
