Apple MacBook Pro magsafe melt problem

June 25, 2006 on 11:47 am | In apple, macbook pro, problem |

Magsafe meltedA couple of months ago, an Apple MacBook Pro user, posted images on his Flickr account of a burned magsafe connection. Apple had him remove the images of the magsafe, after they dealt with the issue.

Now it seems that other people are staring to encounter this dangerous problem. A post form a MacBook pro user in a forum message, explains that his magsafe started to burn and melt while he was using the notebook computer in bed.

Maybe it’s time for Apple to issue a recall on the magsafe connectors for the MacBook Pros?

  1. I agree whole heartedley - Ive had my MBP for about a year now, and while the magsafe charger hasn’t caught on fire yet, there are bare cables appearing from the plastic sheath, one of the spring loaded pins remains depresed and now the charger doesnt function at all!!!! Great workmanship, really great.

  2. Happened to me twice now. Its from the outer ground wire coating touching the inner power cable. Happens due to strain in that area. The inner rubber coating the power gets worn by the ground wire that surrounds it. Apple needs to take care of this. Im getting tired of spending a couple hours every year on the phone with them trying to get it replaced!

  4. I just called Apple and I am getting it replaced. Thank god for Apple Care. But she sounded very surprised by it. So if this happens to you, let Apple know!
