HBO’s 2-page ad in Variety: “Aquaman” biggest box office splash in history

June 21, 2006 on 1:41 am | In funny, tv |

On Monday morning, a 2-page ad placed by HBO in Variety, the Hollywood trade publication, declared that the new James Cameron film “Aquaman,” starring Vincent Chase, was the “biggest box office splash in history,” bringing in an astounding $116 million in its opening 3-day weekend.

The ad did not mention that this of course took place on the HBO show “Entourage,” which follows the life of an upcoming movie star “Vincent Chase”, played by Adrian Grenier.

James Cameron said that he has received phone calls from acquaintances congratulating him and asking about the film “Aquaman”, not knowing that it does not exist.

  1. Is it just me or has season 3 started with a thud?

  2. to bad the ad is funnier than the show… what was once a great show has been reduced to cheap bits, rehashed jokes and lame ideas…

  6. As if anyone would actually PAY to see anything starring Aquaman.

And I have never been able to get into the show….Priven can do better methinks.

  8. You don’t think our show is funny? Fuck you. Hug that out, bitch.

  9. The 3rd season has been good, but not great. They’ve spent so much time building up Aquaman that they need to get some episodes out of it. Don’t worry, it won’t be long until the drama heats up and the episodes/lines get fresh again. Besides, just a “good” season of Entourage is the best show on TV.

  10. Anyone who says the show is not funny, simply hasn’t watched it, or are from some other planet. And to “provosaint” who says what it has been reduced to, you’re making that up because the show has given the exact same kind of humor since day 1.

  11. This just in: New thriller “Black Manta” sneeks in from behind and firmly lodges its place atop “Aquaman” for the top spot at the box offices!11one1!

  13. i don’t like Dom. besides that i think the show is still pretty good.

  14. Damn. I came here looking for a larger version of the pic of Jeremy Piven. Isn’t that bait and switch?

Even a mediocre episode of Entourage is better than most of the tripe on TV.

  15. I agree, the previous seasons of Entourage have been SO much better. I don’t even like the Dom character. I don’t know what it is, but I sure hope it picks up again. They need to get their magic back.

  16. Dom is Dumb, what a loser, a typical “Ginso” thug, and i can say that, as I’m Italian myself, and from an area similiar to Vinnies hometown area, and not far from it, either-NYC/Queens, in case any of you people dont realize where theyre all from. They got to get back to the basics, with all the guys partying together, getting laid-not just Dom, either! Right, the fattest, brutish clown amongst them, gets all these “10’s” in his bed, whether he pays for them or not? Not in this lifetime! Hes the kind of guy who couldnt get laid if he had $100 bills sticking out of his ass! And that boy has got one big ass ass! Also, less of Ari’s back story, who gives a shit as to his family, bitchy, no-named wife, all his kids, and he has a 14 yr old daughter? When did this guy get married, at age 20? I’d rather him, and all of us, to “Hug it out, Bitches!”

  18. Here’s a true point: Anything that raises emotions…passion…either side of the fence be damned…is what makes good TV. Unanimous boredom can blow me. I love Entourage, mostly for the way it feels like we are vicariously getting to ride in the backseat of a Hummer on the way to the Big City Lights. It has never lost its abitlity to catapult me into wondering where my tux was and hoping Vince continues to get good roles so we can still hang out like big boyz. Rock on Entourage, and love it or leave it, it still riles the senses, and that’s good for me!

  19. This has been, by far, the funniest season yet. Just because all you haters haven’t seen a bunch of skin this season (except for Dom’s losers), you think it’s lost something. Yeah, it’s lost the only thing that was low-life about it before now. Don’t get me wrong; some of the titular scenes were hilarious with Drama and Turtle, but come on, we know Vinnie can get who he wants when he wants - we didn’t need to see it ten times an episode. Somebody got smart. All you haters go watch your T&A somewhere else - it’s just not needed here as much anymore. We got the point from the first two seasons, thank you very much.

Even I was beginning to be convinced to go see the film, although I am not a big fan of this type of big-budget-cheezy-family-Disney-adventure-movie-with-pirates-and-ghosts-animated-by-computers. Yesterday again, I was reading that the movie would beat Spiderman 2 (and even the fake opening of Aquaman) on its opening week-end. [...]
